About Northgate Veterinary Surgery
Husband and wife team Dr Bernie Bredhauer and Dr Megan Bredhauer (nee Parker) trained together as The University of Queensland. They both graduated with First Class Honours in 1991 and after a few years in practice went on to become PhD students at the University of Queensland in the mid-nineties. Since then they have enjoyed diverse, rich and rewarding careers in the veterinary profession; collectively acquiring nearly fifty years experience in veterinary practice, postgraduate study and research, and the animal health industry. They are both committed to life-long learning, animal welfare, the human-companion animal bond and the delivery of the highest quality veterinary medicine and surgery possible.
Northgate Veterinary Surgery as a practice has serviced the community and surrounds of Northgate for over 35 years. Drs Bernie and Megan took over the practice in 2003 from Dr Bill Thompson. and steadily grew it into the dedicated team of veterinarians, veterinary nurses and pets you will meet today. At Northgate Vets, we see your animals as integral members of your family. We offer a comprehensive range of best-practice on-site medical, surgical and diagnostic services such as blood testing, pathology, x-rays and endoscopy; so most conditions can be managed to a very high standard at the practice itself.
Northgate Veterinary Surgery contributes actively to the local community by teaching local school children about safety around dogs and responsible pet ownership through the AVA's PetPep program.
We are the proud home of origin of 'Red Dog', the St George Queensland Reds Rugby Junior mascot. Dr Bernie, an avid rugby fan, came up with the idea that the Reds could benefit from an intelligent, interactive canine team Mascot; and approached them with the suggestion. After careful planning and selection 'Red' arrived as a puppy in February 2014; and began training immediately with Justin Jordan of Jordan Dog Training. Keep an eye out for Red Dog as he supports his team from the sidelines of the field at Suncorp Stadium and cheers his fans at club events around Queensland.
We at Northgate Vets have supported a school community project in the rainforset in Myanmar through World Vision for the last ten years. Our sponsor child in Myanmar; Miss No No is now 17-years-old.
We also celebrate the valuable work of the RSPCA each year, through supporting them with our annual Cupcake day extravagansa. In 2015, we were interviewed by ABC 612 Brisbane while we danced our way through the afternoon on Ridge Street, tempting locals to buy a cupcake for the RSPCA.
